About

It all started when…

my husband, a senior keeper, brought home a painted footprint of one of his alligators. This started a conversation about biofacts, the importance of visuals for connecting to guests, and ultimately the potential for collaborating.

With over a decade of experience teaching and creating sculptures through life casting and mold making process, I have worked to adapt these processes to create original, highly detailed, biofacts that can be used of educational, outreach, and conservation programming. Since this process takes place concurrent with medical procedures, which require the animal to be under anesthesia and monitored, the animal's safety is always at the forefront of this practice. My knowledge of these materials and processes, allows me to understand, adapt to, and work with the time parameters present relating to the animals to achieve the best results.

After the first cast is made, this object is taken back to the studio where they are reimagined through creating a mold, allowing for future sculptures to be imagined in a wide variety of materials and finishes.

PROCESS

There are three phases to this process which include: a planning phase, casting phase (on site), and mold making phases (afterwards in studio).

Each life casting session is planned out accordingly based on the animal, desired result, and time constraints in place.
